Where do you hang out? (RPM range on Tach)
Just got a Tachometer installed on my bike and found out that I am shifting before 2500 most of the time in the city. Hell I am not even really hitting the power that the bike has.
Where do you shift and where do you cruise?
I do run the thing on occasion but not really that often, hard to do on the streets of Philly.
If you think I am lugging the bike, you can kiss my A$$. (This should fire someone up)
Cheers

I probably usually shift between 3000 and 4000 rpm's, and cruise between 2500 and 3500 depending on whether I'm in the city or on the highway. I try not to get under 2000 rpm's when cruising...
My husband said that he takes his bike up to redline on a semi-regular basis to blow the crap out (plus he just likes to romp on it) and suggested I do the same - at least in first and second. Might be he's right since I think my bike is loaded up with carbon deposits right now.
I guess I ride like an old lady...

I dunno cause I don't have a tach, but like to cruise country roads and twisties in 3rd, which I routinely run up to about 50 mph, 4th to 60-65, and 5th 65 and over.

I find it kinda funny that i built this bike up and do not even use the power that it has.
I do run it out every once n a while, I find that it will get me where I need to go in a hurry when I twist the throttle hard.
I am not sure that running it to redline will actually clean the carbon. I always heard that you can take a spray bottle with water and spay a bit into the intake while the bike is running and it will clean the heck out of things. You will see the results coming out of the exhaust.

Sounds like you are not running the bike to hard either. It think I am at about 4K on the tack at 60mph in 3rd and I am ready to shift.

Whoops! What I meant was he rides it at higher RPM's to PREVENT carbon buildup. I'm trying some Marvel Mystery Oil in my bike to see if that's what's causing her "hiccups".
And thanks for the suggestion!

I agree...from stops, in 1st or 2nd, I like run it up a little higher around 4500-5500, but when I'm not being obnoxious, I shift around 3500, and cruise no lower than 2500RPM, which is about 60mph (for me).

I do run it out a bit more in the country. I will shift between 3500 and 4000 on the county rodes. The damn things moves and the next thing I know I am at 65-70.
I guess I do not want to piss off the neighbors when in town. This think is loud when I get on it. I do get a stupid smile on the face when I do that.
My wife just got an 06 Deluxe and she will not get on my bike. Make me laugh, she would love it.

I've also got a 95" Big Bore - they DO pull pretty hard for a big bike when you get on it, don't they?
I've really only ridden my 1000cc Sportster, a 2000 Fat Boy, a 2001 Heritage, my husband's 2005 Night Train (all stock) and my Road King, so I really didn't have anything to compare my bike to as far as how quick it was, but my husband and our buddy who works on bikes both said mine is damn fast. Makes me proud...
Do your feet fly out behind you when you get on yours???

Lady Godiva
I had to laugh about the feet flying out.
I have been riding bikes for years and the only time that I had that happen was on an off road bike, YZ400, every time I would get on the throttle my right leg would leave the peg for some unkonw reason. I never did figure that on out. I would just laugh.
