Larger gas tank on 97 Heritage

Has anyone put on a larger tank for their 97 softails? Thinking about the 6 gallon but not sure of how much wider or bigger it's going to look. I'm thinking of the fat bob tank and I'd like to stay away from the stretch tanks since I'd rather not get a new seat.

Another question: 97 FLSTC is the flat side mount?

Thanks

Put 5 gallon tanks on my 93 FLSTC. I went with H-D factory tanks and paint at the time, 1998. Yes they are flat side fatbobs. Biggest problem is making sure the winshield mounts are positioned correctly. If they are too far back they will hit the front of the tanks when the front end goes to its stops. Very Tight fit.
I think 6 gallon would be pushing you luck. I like the look of the 5 Gallon.
Part number would be the same as the tanks on the FXSTC Softail Custom for your year. It came with 5 gallon from the factory. Your stock tanks are 4.2 gallon.
