Chunks in Primary Case

I have an '04 Heritage with about 5K miles on it. During the check I drained my primary case to change the oil and collected some pretty big chunks from the magnetic drain plug. About three 1/4" by 1/8" pieces of metal plus some smaller shavings. All the same color so wherever it came off was probably the same place. I saved them in a plastic baggy.
Is this normal to get during the first few thousand miles? What would cause this? I notice no problems starting, shifting or finding neutral.
The bike is still under warranty so will go to the stealership just to make sure.

broken link primary chain, bits and pieces from clutch assembly etc. Would not ride the thing until I know the root cause.

1/4" by 1/8" is a big piece of metal. Definitely have it checked out...
