New Night Train

Just picked up a new Night Train yesterday and it's a sweet ride.

I would like to raise the handlebars so here's my question. On my Low Rider, the factory allowed about 6-8" of extra harness wiring so raising the bars was not so problematic.
For anyone who has changed bars on a 05 NT, was there any extra wiring under the tank ( or anywhere else for that matter)? I know all cables will need to be changed but that's no big deal. I just hate splicing and/or soldering the handlebar wiring.

My service manual won't be here till Tuesday and our weekend isn't looking tooo good so I figured I'd tackle the job now.

Thanks for the input. Oh, by the way. I really, really hate those TORX bolts.

I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get further into the bike.

The extra wire is stashed in a loop that can be reached via the back fender. At the inside front of the rear fender is an access panel. Remove it, cut the cable ties securing the wire loop inside that hole, pull the loop loose, then pull the harness out the front of the frame while someone else feeds it into that hole in back. it helps to have the rear suspension unloaded to reach up between the wheel and fender.

Night Train Wiring

Gerry,

I think Austin, in his reply to my initial post, got the bikes mixed up. I was asking about a Night Train, not a Dyna

Anyway, us Night Train owners are not as fortunate as Dyna riders. We dont have a service loop. No extra wire. So, we have to cut and splice in order to extend our wires for higher bars.

I did this project last month and it took a couple of hours. Bitchiest part was removing the tank. Start by disconnecting your battery. After that, locate the 12 wires and start cutting and splicing. Before you reinstall the tank, test all the functions.

You'll probably have to change clutch, brake, throttle and idle cables as well so having the tank off will make the t/i cable installation that much easier.

Good luck

I am sorry but I don't remember. I put a set of carlini super sweeps on with them. The bars are 9" up and about 9" back with the wiring run in the bars though.

hope this helps
