Mid Controls on a Night Train
Hey all,
My first post here, so hello to everyone, looks like a very good forum. This might have been discussed already but I am currently looking at a 2003 Night Train and I was wondering if it is posible to put mid controls on it. If so what parts do i need and how difficult would it be? Am i correct in assuming that since they work in a FXDL that they would work on an FXSTB? Thanks for the help.

I guess mid-controls are becoming very popular, especially on the custom bikes. Don't know why, though...

Well, to be honest for most of my motorcycle life ive been riding sport bikes. I finally realized after working at an HD dealership for a little over a year that i need a Harley. I just feel more comfortable riding hard on a bike that has mid controls. I also have bad knees so its nice for me to be able to switch positions on longer rides. and dont worry, im not trying to turn my harley into a sportbike or anything. all in all its just more comfortable for me.

But to answer your question.... I don't think Harley has a solution for you. No softail model has mid-controls, and those models which have mid-controls (Dynas and Sportys) have tabs welded on the frame for the foot support (peg) to be bolted to. Also, they usually have a linkage rod for the shifter that goes through the primary (the Dynas).
If you really need mids, I think I'd look at the Dyna family.

Anything is possible with time, patience, and money. If you are working at a dealership, between you and the tech's, you should be able to figure it out. If you do, post pictures. Many more people are probably interested.

It sounds like you need a Street Rod . . . or a Super Glide Sport.

I wouldnt call it a knock off. Just becuase a bike has mid controls has nothing to do with it being a sport bike knock off. would you call a dyna low rider or an xl1200r a sport bike?

If a guy wants mid controls, what's the big deal, help him out. Hell every time you see ape hangers on a stock bike do you question that and think he is building a chopper knock off. All H-D's used to have mid controls.

I agree with Chuck and I also understand why he probably wants mid-controls. In MHO you have far better control with mids. I'd be interesting in finding out what you come up with. Please post it.

Mid Mount Controls
I like the idear too. It never hurts to have options to tailor one's bike to his own taste and style. If you work it out you would more likley as not find a market for that modification.Good Luck.

Even though i do work at a dealership im still learning about the bikes, am i correct in assuming that the shifter assembly from the dyna would work with the softail? They use the same motor and tranny right? If thats the case the only hard part will be figuring out the brake system.
