2004 Heritage Rear Fender Rail

For those that have installed a rear fender rail on a Heritage I am looking for any tips, tricks, etc while doing the work.
It involves drilling into the fender so thought I would collect as much info as I can beforehand.
For some reason drilling into my bike has got me a little freaked out!

when I put the rear rail on my 04 heritage, I saw the directions and thought "I have to do WHAT TO MY FENDER???" Any how, just take it easy when it starts to break through so you don't gouge your rear tire. The front and rear rails really dress up those fenders.

Thanks Glenn,

I have since heard that putting a piece of tape over the fender and drilling a pilot hole will help keep the paint from chipping.
I agree, I think they both look good and already installed the front rail.
Cheers!

yes, that's right. I did put tape over the fender to help the bit from walking. Thinking about it now, I have bare metal in the hole right now. I should coat that bare metal to keep rust from forming.

1) Use a felt tip marker to mark your holes, measure and re-measure
2) use a punch to get an indentation for the drill bit
3) go slow
4) after you drill the hole, coat it with an anti rust primer, you dont want the hole to rust out later on down the line.

voila you are done
