Please tell me about your experience with having Stage 1 installed. Did you have the dealer do the download, install the air filter and mufflers all at the same time? PLanning to do something similar - but have heard HD no longer recommends the download, because it simply changes the ignition curve and does not provide for more fuel.
I'm a little confused - tell me what you can?
Thanks

I did it all myself! I ordered all my parts from Fuel Moto; Vance and Hines Propipe Chrome 2-1, Fuel Moto Pro billet Air cleaner, and Dynojet Powervision tuner. The powervision is a flash tuner, and Jamie at Fuel Moto will send it with the proper tune for your bike and mods pre installed. You plug it into your bikes diagnostic port, flash the tune, and you go ride. If you are reasonably handy with a wrench the job can be completed in a weekend.
My HD dealer recommended the Screaming Eagle Pro Race Tuner, which I'm sure would work fine as well.
EDIT---Think a little bit about what your goals are. If you just want improved sound over stack, a set of slip on mufflers would do the trick and no re-tune is necessary.

I think with a Fatboy if you change slipons you will need a re-tune as the cats are in the stock slipons. I have a 2012 and put the V&H twin slash slip ons and it was way too lean. I too went to FuelMoto for a powervision - his loaded map was perfect and now if I make more changes it's easy to re-tune.

Do OEM fatboy twin mufflers have CATS inside each?

Just purchased a 2013 Fatboy. I didn't think there was room inside the twin OEM mufflers for CAT converters? Above you mentioned "cats are in the slipons". How about in the OEM mufflers?
Thanks

Yup, the cats are part of each muffler. After you ride it a while you'll feel the heat coming from them. The head pipes are open other than the O2 sensors. That's why they are so quiet too, change them out and you've got the Harley sound back.

I had the dealer install SE ventilator ac,VH big shot exhaust and stage 1 upgrade which I was told was needed back in 2010 when I bought the bike. Never had any problems bike runs great. Just installed set of Andrews cams, really woke the motor up,huge difference in low end power, sounds great

Just picked up a 95 fatboy, and its awesome! it has a vance & hines short shot exhaust system on it. i was wondering if anybody else has these pipes on thier fatboy. i'm curious because of the way they are mounted with the rear bracket. mine were mounted to the transmisson. the bracket was mounted using the 2 bottom bolts of the trans next to the drain plug. is this the way they are supposed to be mounted?

Vance and Hines has pdf installation instructions on their web site for most, if not all, of their exhaust systems.
