Duece Backrest

I'm getting ready to install me "tall" backrest for the Duece..sold the RK and the other half is complaining about no backrest on the new Bike...

Anyway, I have a Badlander 2 up seat when I ride alone, and I mount up the stock seat when she wants to tag along, which is pretty often. I noticed that the backrest mount can be seen when the badlander is back on, yet with the stock seat everything is covered up nicely.

Soo...I may have to trim down the balck plate to match the chrome backrest base, no biggy..

Here's the real issue and I'm hoping you guys can nail it down for me..

Does the backrest go on and off pretty easy, so I can ride without if I choose, or is it a permenant part of the bike once installed??

Tanks....Bucket..

Bucket;

It is not permanent, but deffinantly not a quick disconnect either. I
1 seat bolt and 3 bracket bolts.

It appears that

Part is permanent, and part not. I didn't install mine, it came with the bike I got used. There looks to be a plate under the fender that is bolted on that holds the carrier on the top of the fender. The backrest bolts to that, and it would appear to be pretty straightforward to get off (3 nuts).

A word of warning tho'. It looks like the original owner of my bike stripped one of the nuts putting it on, because I cannot take it off easily. I may have to cut it off if I need to take off the backrest. I don't know how easily this happens, but it's pretty annoying to an otherwise simple procedure.

It will come off alot easier if you install it using some anti seize on the threads. Should be able to get it off in less than five minutes ideal.

I put it on today and it looks great, along with the luggage rack. That'll really come in handy since we don't have the RK any longer.

The plates are pretty well hidden even under the badlander seat...just a slight view of it..

I'm happy.

But...I also had Harley chrome calipers put on too, by the dealership. When I pulled out of the dealer the brakes were squealing like an old Nova. I pulled back in and asked if they had test driven it. It was soooo loud. So I left it overnight for them to ponder the problem. While we were all looking around at the caliper(like that's gonna' solve anything) we noticed that the chrome wasn't that good around one of the bolts. Yoiu could actually see the nickel(kinda a yellowish color). I said let's just replace the whole thing 'cause I wasn't too happy with the finish. Hopefully they'll get it all figured out.
