Widest Tire for a Softail Custom

Whats the widest tire I can put on a 1999 Softail Custom FXSTC ? Don't want to put on wide tire kit , just the widest tire that won't rub in stock configuration.I'll be using the stock rear wheel. Also would changing rear wheel matter?

THANKS IN ADVANCE !!!

I run a 160 metzler on my train, with button head bolts inside out for the fender struts. I used a duece rear wheel, which is wider. Your stock wheel may be a little narror for a 160.

160mm on Night train

do you have any pix of your night train, and the work you did (post work is OK for me). I want to put a 160 on my '02 (shop said stock wheel will take 160, but would rub)
Also, any advice you can give a newbie, would be appricated.
Thanks
SFS

My 98 FXSTC has a 150 on it, factory. The guy who sold it to me its a HD wide tire kit, even though there is no mod to the swing arm. I asked what makes it a kit, he didn't know.

Not to mention the belt guard has been modified, (a chunk cut out), to accept the wider tire and it looks like the final belt rubs on the rear tire a bit too. I think its not a HD wide tire kit as I was told, I think someone put a 150 on it and they had to make a couple of minor mods so the tire wouldn't rub.

I digress, sorry....the 150 is the widest tire my 98 will accept without making mods to the swing arm.

Harleys new 200 rear tire on the softail family

question
can anyone tell me what harley did to make the new 200 tire fit the 06 nighttrain and the other softails. My father in law and myself were at the local dealership yesterday and we checked out the new setup and i have to tell you we both liked it alot. I dont really care for the skinnier drive belt. my question is will it be strong enough for the bigger tire. also to me as far as modifications goes it looked like all they did was narrow up the drive belt and install a bigger fender and fender struts abviously. did they really change the swingarm. i studied other softails including his 03 nighttrain with the 160 tire and to me the swingarms look basically the same. the spacers used at the pivot points look to be the same the belt gaurd has been notched for the bigger tire but really to me nothing else looks different with the swingarm. of course i could be wrong. I know someone in here knows what they did. could you let me know what they did. im really curious thanks man
