Need Help! Puking Oil!

I have a 2006 Heritage Solftail Classic, fuel injected. I had changed the oil mid summer and have ridden the bike numerous times. Yesterday after sitting nearly a month I fired the bike up for a ride. After about a block the oil dip stick blew out and oil was running out of the oil tank! What a mess! This morning I pulled a full quart of oil out and ran the engine a couple minutes. It seems okay but still above full mark. It does have a gas smell but wouldn't it anyway just from combustion? The oil doesn't seem super thin. Where did all this freaking oil come from. Like I said I had rode this bike several times since last oil change.

Are you sure you drained the engine oil and not the trans when you changed it lol?
Did it sit a long while before the change?
H-D's often "drysump" oil from the tank to the crankcase when they sit for extended periods, always check/change the oil with a warm engine,if you check cold and there's oil in the crankcase it'll end up over filled when you add oil and puke it all over.
Chances are your airfilter is full of oil as well.

Nitram_b4 is reading this now saying WTF is this?
how long was it sitting before you changed the oil?
If it was a long time, the oil could have drained back into the engine, and when you drained the tank and re-filled it to the right level, you were really over filling because when you fire it back up, you are pumping all the oil from the crank case back to the tank along with the fresh oil.
You should always run a bike before changing the oil

Air cleaner is dry. I understand what you are saying but why wouldn't this happen the first time I rode after the oil change? This is what is puzzling me!
