Will a rear fender from a 2001 softail springer fit a 1997 softail springer

I needed a new rear fender (to Paint) I found a 2001 softail springer fender, I have a 1997 softail springer. Will a rear fender from a 2001 softail springer fit a 1997 softail springer? I know they are slightly different but they look close.

Depending on how savvy you are? Measure the width between your fender struts. Mine was 7.5 inches in width, and i had no qualms about going off that alone. Some trimming may or may not need to be done around the seat area, or new holes drilled.

I think it is going to be too wide to fit between the struts, 2000 to 2005 are interchangeable
I have a 2000 springer and switched my fender to a 2002 FLSTC, but I searched around to see what would fit and I seem to recall anything earlier would not be wide enough

I also have a 97 Springer, I have an extra rear fender as well as front fender and gas tanks that I took off when I had the bike painted.

Been looking to get rid of them for awhile now.

I don't think it will be any wider...the holes for your struts will be drilled differently though, so you'd have to probably drill some new holes...

with a grinding wheel and cutting disk, anything will fit!
