can't help you with the windshield, but can help with the PC3R. if you have done any mods -- pipes, air cleaner, etc. then a power commander, DFO, etc. is a MUST. there are several different types out there, and the dynojets (in my opinion) are the best, BUT they are not as user friendly (for most), as say the DFO.
do a search on this forum and the general forum -- you should find several threads...
good luck.

I have a very bad back and the wind resistance just adds to the discomfort on over than 30 miles. I want a detachable for short around town trips.

I personally have the standard-height H-D detachable - it's ok, though I rarely use it. A friend had the detachable H-D SuperSport model and hated it so much he took it back and got the standard. Many of the members of the Yahoo Deuce forum swear by the Windvest - small and reasonably unobtrusive, but does the job (according to them). I think their website is www.windvest.com (can't check from here - if not a google search should work). Not quick-detach, but I think it's just 4 allen-heads to remove. There's some initial setup/adjustment to get them to work best for the individual rider, and they're handlebar-mounted, so be sure you look at the right kit for your 1-1/4" bars.

You picked the wrong bike with a bad back, but I have to ditto the wind vest for the Deuce, especially the SE Deuce. But hey it's your bike, I wouldn't go jacking with the power commander, your 95'' 1550 with pipes or slip ons and the HD reflash of computer will be just fine, I've heard of nothing but complaints, b#tches and moans about the DFO, power commander etc.. look at all the used ones on ebay and etc.. one of these products selling points is "it will come right off and the dealership will never know you had it on" (yeah you'll need to pull it off when you get warranty work done )after that thing screws up your ECU, but hey what do I know, any advice here is definitely worth what you pay for it.
Ride safe and enjoy that awesome bike. About the bike, definitely change the suspension if you are gonna do some serious riding. Stock is stiff, are you at the "softest" preload?

I have a detatchable windshield for my Deuce, and I have to admit I don't like it very much. I thought I would use it much more than I do. It is nice for reducing wind preasure on my body on long rides. However, it also directs all the air right at my forehead (actually makes my glasses move around on my face), and it blocks my view. The chrome reflects off the windshield making it hard to see through, and the top of the windshield is right in my line of view.
Okay, now that I haven't helped you a bit because you want a windshield and here I am trying to talk you out of it. I'll try to offer some advice that might help... My back gets sore while riding sometimes, and I have discovered that the handlebar position is the primary reason for this on my bike. So, maybe you should try to find some bars that would put you in a more comfortable position for your back. Just a thought.

I am not sure about changing bars because of the internal wiring and the 1 1/4 size. I am probably misinformed as being new to a Harley. I know a new mustang seat with a back rest will help a lot. I don't want to screw up the looks but I want to ride. Two back surgeries within a year is not good.

Have y'all considered a detachable backrest on the seat?

I put a memphis shades windhshield on my 03 Deuce and it is pretty good on long rides. Lowers the wind noise and takes the wind pressure away. Not great, but it works. I am actually thinking of trading the Deuce for a Road King.

I don't have anything to offer on the shield\sissy bar discussion as I do not use either...
I did want to chime in on the bars... You definitely notice a difference between the 1 1/4 and the 1 1/2 -- I guess the difference depends more on your economic position that the actual differences... If you don't have the $$$ or are hung-up on the thought of spending that much $$$ on bars, then the 1 1/4 are going to be OK for you.
That being said -- I refuse to put any other bars on my rides other than Carlini's. This is a personal preference and not a knock on any other bars. You get what you pay for... I had 1 1/4 Bully bars on my old Train and ended up switching to 1 1/2 Hoghangles with 5" of rise -- I have never gotten so many positive comments. I had a guy follow me for 5 miles to get a closer look.
Additionally the quality of the Carlinis are 2nd to none. Check the welds and quality of the plating -- it makes spending that much on bars that much easier.
It is a no brainer IMO...

I have a 02’ Deuce & wanted a windshield – most of my riding is on the super highways & I like to enjoy the ride more than I could at 70-75mph without the windshield.
Not to knock the HD products but the detachable Low Profile Windshield from HD just didn’t do it for me. I didn’t like the way the docking h/w wrapped around the forks & the way the windshield looked -period! There was zero adjustment to the windshield – whatever it was, it was!
I happened to find Windvest on the web & called the folks – they sent me some photos of installations & said I wouldn’t be disappointed. In fact they offered to take it back if I didn’t like it. I don’t know whether that’s still something offered or something that was offered to me only. Anyway, I ordered the 16” PN# 1241C & it’s been on the bike ever since. To remove it, you remove two Allen bolts (takes about 2 minutes) - since everything is heavy chrome plated – the remaining mounts look great. I’ve gotten use to leaving the windshield in place & have gotten a lot of positive comments on the look.
How does it work – well at 70-75mph I can put my hand in front of my helmet & not feel any wind or very little (supposedly this is the test to see if you have the windshield adjusted properly. Yes it takes some time to adjust since you can angle the windshield & raise the windshield to meet your physical size. They offer a larger one – but I’m very happy with the one I have.
You can see the Windvest in my Galley “deuce2002”
Yes, I also have the Power Commander III on my EFI bike - of course with the larger mill & reworked heads it may not work as well
My .02 cents - hope it helps
