softail swingarm
Does anyone know if a 2008 swingarm will fit under a 1995?

reaaaaaly!
seems that the width at the pivot points wouldn't match up at all.
if you threw a 180 on there...what other mods? It would seem that the belt wouldn't line up with the tranny pulley correctly?
please, details?

I'm a bit skeptical of this. Pictures?
If its a 200mm swing arm (e.g. off a fatboy, softtail standard/custom or night train) it would take a lot of work to get it to fit. The swing arm is much wider at the pivot point, so it would require mod-ing your frame to get it to line up etc. Then you have issues with belt alignment. HD's with 200mm rear ends have an offset primary, thinner belt, wider front pulley and thinner rear pulley to get everything to line up. Thats alot of work...

One ever post, and it's this? Yeah, right.
No, it will not fit fit. It was not just the SWINGARM they had to change to support the wider rear tire, but the frame itself has to be wider for the swingarm to "fit in there". The bottom rails are several inches FURTHER APART than the years prior to the wide tire change.
I was a dealership wrench for 4 years (04 through 07), and saw these changes come in. I literally got on the floor next to two models that were different only in year (Nightrains, I recall) with a tape measure to check things out. We had this dude come in every month saying "I want a 200 tire on my 05 Nightrain". Kept telling him it couldn't be done, he would just come back in again.

In all honesty I've heard you can fit a more current model swingarm on the 84-99 frames, too. Maybe not 08, but...what about an 05 swingarm? would that allow for play in the width?
It can't be as simple as changing the swingarm. Just can't be.

I have a swingarm from a TC on my evo softail frame. I used the entire TC softail rear hub, caliper, rotor, pulley, belt, splash guard, axle spacers and belt guards. The entire assembly bolted in without any modifications.
I laced the hub to an Excel 18" x 4.25" rim and run a Metz 160 radial tire. Lots of clearance everywhere. Stock offset on the rim/hub.
This setup has been on my black softail for several years. -Ed

A Twin Cam swingarm could fit.... IF it is not one of the ones made for a 200mm wide rear tire.
As JustDave suggests.... an 05 would possibly work, as the stock bikes only ran a 150mm wide tire, and you could squeeze a 160 under there as econnor mentioned. Or an '08 if it was off a Heritage, as they don't have the wide tires.
But I'm suspecting when the OP said "an '08 swingarm", he's thinking about that 200mm rear tire?

I have a '02 deuce with a 200/18 dunlop E3. Just made the change from a 180 Avon. aftermarket rear wheel of course and chain drive. It is tight, but it fits. I think the new smaller belts are actually a 1/16" narrower than a non O-ring chain even. I'm out of town right now, but I think I remember checking the parts numbers (from my parts manual) for the deuce swingarm vs standard softail for a guy, and they were the same part number. Fender on a standard would have to be changed I'd assume as they are only 7" wide?

Id love to see some pics and get more info on this. Im currently running a 180 in my stock 99 swingarm but I changed out the fender and used a narrow belt. Paughco makes a sweet hidden axle swingarm for twincam frames but if I could make it fit my evo pretty easy Id love to do it.

2000-2006 softail swingarm 200mm tire
The 00-06 tc swingarm will fit a 200mm tire with some work
new fender/frame horns removed
18x5.5 wheel and 200/50-18 tire of your choice
7/8 pulley/20mm belt
correct axle spacers- I've done my softail and 1 other
I have no rubbing issues or problems with mine I ride a 01 softail fxsti, I ride mine hard and have no issues with the narrow belt.
I'm currently working on a 99 softail, to fit a 200 tire, with a belt. Looks like I will be using a 00-06 swingarm to make it work, since the evo swingarm is narrower than a tc at the axle. I'll keep you guys informed.
