Just noticed I need to replace by shifter ball joint ends. Been reading alot about changing to heim joints. Anyone done this? If so what are the parts I would need and where. What are the part specs? Size? 97 softail.

Why don't you measure it your self, buy some heim joints, locking nuts, some round stock and the die needed. easy enough - or you can pay for a premade unit.

Heim size

I have the linkage. Just need to know size. 5/16 24 pitch?
Is there an inside or outside to them when installing?

Big help there...

OK 97piglt, heres one way to go...

The thread on the linkage shaft is 5/16x24.

You can get the rod ends from http://mcmaster.com

The Mcmaster-Carr part number is 59915K483, they are 11.34 each. Stainless Steel.

They ship extremely fast.

Bolt question

Thats the answer I was looking for!!!!! Thanks. Couple more questions. The bolt that goes through the heim that attatches to the shifter arm, doesnt the threads on the bolt wear away the heim? Jam nuts at local hardware store?

I don`t know about the chrome ones on ebay, but Mcmaster gives the specs on their website under the part listing. Another source for spherical rod ends and all kinds of other cool stuff is http://midwestcontrol.com

I have not ordered anything from midwest, but I highly recommend Mcmaster-Carr.
