Can a softail do a wheelie?

Never seen it done. My buddy has a 113 that rips pretty good, but can't get that front wheel up... The back wheel just breaks loose. Seems like the softale suspension just won't let it happen..

Just wondering,

Seen it done on a 80" that had a lot of work done to it. He was running Metzlers.

Had a customer that used to routinely wheelie his '92 Softail (has a bagger now). Have a friend that does it too (with a stage one 88"). It's not hard if you're good at it....and can be done on just about any motorcycle......with the chassis geometry of a Softail, it can be a bit hard on the equipment.

If he wants to do a wheelie, tell him to do this: accelerate moderately in 1st gear to about 4,000 rpm, then quickly back off on the throttle and then nail it wot. The backing off of the throttle compresses the fork springs, and when you nail it, the springs rebound which puts the chassis in a position to do a wheelie. Make sure his arms are fully extended and sitting back as far as possible. If he wants, he could add some front brake during that short deccel to compress the front springs even more.

Yup, that works well on baggers too!

If the motor has some power behind it, make sure the tire/pavement is warm/hot as well. The Fx front ends are much easier to get air...

agree with the folks above, the only suggestion I have to add is put your feet on the back pegs, it makes it easier to control.

Yeah, a little too easy, just ask my wife! If I didn't have a little sissy bar, I could've gotten that t-shirt "If you can read this... "

I don't want to, but my buddy is one of those dudes that likes to show. I've seen him broil his tire off, on open pavement, no stupid jersey barrier on the front wheel, to save on the labor for a tire change!!! I like riding with him..
