Oil Pressure?

I have an 89 Heritage Classic and lately when I start it sometimes the oil dipstick comes out and oil comes out of the spout down the side of the tank, and onto the pipes. Yes its a lovely site. Oh did I mention it usually shoots up onto the back of my leg too. Any ideas where to start?

The crankcase breather seems to be working ok because when the bike is running I can feel air being pushed out of it. The dipstick is the kind with the temperature guage in it and has a big rubber plug type thing, can those plugs be replaced? Or would I have to get a new dipstick?

I took the bike to the dealer to get the emissions done and they said the intake seals were leaking, could that have anything to do with it? Extra air being sucked/pushed through... I will check the compression when I get it back from them, hopefully Monday.

I've got a 86 EVO that's been dong that for twenty years. I put a little less oil in the wraparound tank. Haven't had a problem since.

Are you running the engine for about 45 to 60 seconds before you check and add oil.

The oil drained down to the sump needs to be scavenged back to the tank before you check it's level in the tank.

Try going back to the OEM plug. I had one of the temp gauge plugs and it leaked like yours, but didn't blow out, though.
