Is this really a 1990 Heritage? If so, the bags are 19 years old.

Without fairly constant care, leather will fade and crack. Saddlebags take an awful lot of abuse: rain, heat, cold, sun... the leather gets pretty beat up if it isn't taken care of.

If these bags ARE 19 years old, and if they ARE lookin' bad... well, there may not be a cure. You could try getting some saddle soap and working it into the bottom side of the leather (the side away from the sun), but I doubt that would bring 'em back.

I would suggest looking for a leather working place like a tannery. I have seen them re-finish things like saddles and they look great. It will cost you a few bucks though.

Scope out ebay for a replacement set. I scored a brand new pair for my 96 heritage for $300, and there were good used ones for about 1/2 that....

Tannery suggestion was a good one or you could even find a cobbler shop and see what they suggest for leather care products. Maybe some saddlesoap to clean and mink oil afterwards...

There are inserts you can buy on ebay that will bring the shape of the bags back.

Saggy Bags works good for the price and stiffens and shapes them nicely, as for Leather Conditioning and also help water proof them... Had good luck with Mink Oil....

agree, id contact a leather shop and ask them what can be done. im sure there is some kind of conditioner you can put on to at least make them look better than they are now.

Go to your local boot or leather shop and get a tub of Obenauf's boot grease. This stuff will work wonders on all things leather.
