Lower Leg Confusion

What is the difference between Softail Night Train lower legs and Softail Custom lower legs? I want to install chrome lowers on my 07 Night Train but they are so much more costly than the Customs. Will Softail Custom lowers fit my bike?

According to HDs web site... they are both $299?

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

There's a part number for the Deuce & Night Train, then there is a different part number for the FXSTC. However, both part numbers are listing for the same price.

You can get chrome FXSTC legs online for $109.99 and they are HD! The seller ( Harely Dealer ) said they are not the same as Train. They would be $299.00. Trying to save some cash to put elsewhere.

Are your fork tubes 41mm or 39mm?

You need to stick with that size.

That must be the difference...mine are 41mm. I guess the Softail Custom is 39mm. Thanks!

No clue what others you are considering, but the Deuce lowers are for the 41mm set up. Deuce lowers are commonly used for custom chopper builds because of the availability, price, and the clean fender mount set up.

From the HD info, the fxstb and fxstc are both 41mm. I'm also wondering what the difference is. I'd like to put the fxstc chrome dust covers on an 04 fxst and am not sure if they'll fit.

And the answer is........ The Softail Custom sliders use a chrome metal cover on top of the slider. In order to get the metal cap off the slider there is 1/4 in. vertical groove cast in the slider under the lip of the cap for removal. Also, there is a rubber dust shield that goes on top the oil seal to take the place of the rubber case seal (rubber boot on top the slider). I'm thinking the inside of the slider might be machined different to accommodate the dust shield. I used the Custom sliders on my Night Train and had the caps and sliders powder coated.

New to this forum

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I'm going to give it a try anyway. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the fork sliders on a 1984-1999 softail and a 2000-up softail? I have a 2003 Night Train and want to replace my fork sliders. There is great selection of 1984-1999 sliders available but I am having trouble finding much for 2000-up bikes. Thanks for any help.

Probably axle size and brake placement.

There's some good deals on ebay. Here are a couple examples.

Black 2000-2005

Chrome 2000-2005

The two main difference are the axle they went from a 3/4 to 25mm and the caliper the old one is 4.5 mounting distance the new ones are 3.5... You can convert..
