Buying My First Bike

Hi to all,

Looking for a little advice and help before I approach the dealership.

Im buying my first bike real soon Ive actually found an '07 Fatboy which is just right.

I need a little help on what to look out for and and what to stay away from.

Was also wondering if anyone knows of any sites that break down the changes or alterations to models throughout the years.

Any help would be great.

Cheers

Riccardo

First, have you narrowed it down based on looks, or comort, meets your ridings needs, etc...?

Will they let you take it for a test drive? I have an older evo, so I won't be of much help with the newer models...but there should be lots of guys chiming in on this....

As far as finding out what fits what, changes, alterations, etc....good luck! If you find one please pass it on to everyone on this forum, and you might even want to pass it on to the harley dealers too...

Good luck!
Pat

Cheers Kustom for the reply,

No ive been into Harleys for years finally passed my test last year, I trained with Harley in Wales over her in the UK.

Once you passed they had this place called the Candy Store - which if and when you passed there was 20+ new bikes all the HD range for you to try out.

I passed my test on a 1200 Sportster, which was fine but Ive always wanted a Fatboy. Tried out the V Rod, Dyna and Heritage etc but when getting on the Fatboy, it was weird it just felt right.

Im a big guy, so was looking for comfort and forward controls, and a big V Twin to kick some ass.

As this is my first bike, i know its been serviced etc by the dealer, just need to know what to look out for possible issues or problems with that model etc...

I love my Fatboy (2007). I've put nearly 12k miles in one year, and have no problems at all to complain about.

You'll enjoy the Fatboy sporty ride and low CG, their great on the HWY, and handle good in traffic.

Good luck

The only advice I can give you is a system my brother worked out and since have had a few freinds use and the all got great deals. I'm sure other people have done this too. If you can find another dealer that has the same bike or similar bike. Haggle with dealer number one and get a good price quote. Go to dealer number 2 haggle with them if they give you a better price call dealer number 1 and say dealer number 2 can give me this price can you beat it. He usually can at which point go back to dealer 2 and give them the new prices. Keep this going till you get the best deal. My brother rode out on a brand new v-rod with custom flame paint and chrome for like 13000. We have like 5 dealerships here withen a 40 mile radius so this is easy to do. The beauty of it is since there are so many dealers and as long as you don't mention the name it's too much effort for the salesman to call all the other dealers and see if you story is legit. And none of my buddies who've done this had a salesman say can you show me a written quote. They just want the sale and when they know they are competing with someone else the gloves come off. One of my friends got a very low quote and the next dealer said we can't beat the other guy I'll be taking a loss. But I'll give it to you for the same price throw in the chrome package, riders essentials kit a Leather jacket and a pair of boots. Oh they all went in the winter too.

Hopefully you have a couple dealers close by.

Only to search and read on different bikes. Harleys are like buttholes,,,,, there is one that will ring your bell and riding style..
Only you can fit the one to your liking. the 07'S have a bigger engine and I bought one, a Heritage, so far I have enjoyed it with no problems. I did do a muffler and air filter change with sert tuning with dyno tune and have put over 10k trouble free miles so far. While is is not the fastest HD on the road it is the bike that I enjoyed more than any that I have ever owned... out of Nine others....
