I was looking at a set of sheetmetal off of an 2004 fxstbi and was told it wouldn't fit my 2002 fxstbi. someone else said it would. can you guys help??

Yes, earlier years had different tanks for carb and injected. If the tank your getting has the lage cutout in the top for fuel pump, float, your good. Then only the adapter for the fuel supply line is different on carb models, which can be changed.

With Both being injected the tanks shouldn't matter and the tires were narrower in 02 so you should be good.

In '04 the rear fender mounting system was changed some but I believe the holes are in the same place...
