There's a hell of a lot to see in that area, plus the people there are REAL friendly. (I've been there) Motel rooms were all booked several months ago. Thunder In The Valley does attract around 200,000 fans.

Click onto this site for a listing of camping areas....

Or try ABATE of Pennsylvania......

The ABATE clubs in the Johnstown area most likely will have camping space for a modest fee. Try these people....

If you're a light sleeper -- take along ear plugs. Be advised that sometimes it rains in western Pennsylvania on that weekend.

I haven't been there in the last 2 years, but before that it was an annual trip. Johnstown opens it's arms to bikers and pretty much includes the entire town. We always stayed in Somerset, which is about 30 miles south. It is a good launch point for either the rally in Johnstown or points south for riding. If you go, try the 2 lane roads in Maryland. Some of the most pleasant riding in the area. If you like riding the mountain roads, try 56 west of town. One of the coolest dive biker bars in town is Rocky's on Maple ave. All bike manufacturers were there for test rides. Have fun.

I'm about 45 minutes away, so i usually ride up on Friday...less crowded...
rooms in town are usually booked from the previous year, although i've heard some say they've found a Mom & Pop motel around the region, that may have a room...
might pick some close town and google the yellow pages for motel...

used to be lotsa them on 22...Ebensburg is easy...
Holiday inn in Somerset had rooms last year...
Ligonier...
56 toward Armaugh/Indiana is a nice road...
