2009 POT Season Underway

Just finished Milwaukee POT, and the sessions are great as usual. Cost cutting is evident now, free liquor for an hour only Friday night.

Good info from the MoCo about marketing efforts to younger riders, women and other underserved customers.

Air cooled engines, according to Harley brass, have a long life ahead of them despite EPA rules and tech experts declaring the v-twin is dead.

The new HOG General Manager, Benny Suggs, is a retired Naval rear admiral and a good guy. He knows Harley and Harley riders.

I was there and thought the classes were good, but the prime rib for dinner was cold and the beans were hard as rocks, and the rest of the meals were below par too. This was my third year in a row at Milwaukee and the only reason I went this year was to see the museum, that was cool, and I like the announcement about starting in May on Thursday night they are going to have bike night at the museum, wished I lived closer.

That's some seriously welcome news! Any indication of how far into the future they're looking right now?

So do you guys just sit around smoking POT and talking about Harley's. What is this POT you speak of?

And, you have a problem with this?

I have my holes dug, gives the varmits a little time to snoop around a bit. But the seedlings don't go in the ground till May.

Ahem.

Primary Officer's Training season, that is. POT for short.

I agree, the caterer did a lousy job on dinner. Stuff was cold.

I wish I could tell you how long air cooled motors will last. As best I can remember what he said: 'We believe, with the technology we have, the air cooled v-twin will be with us for a long time'. That's as specific as they got. And really more specific than they EVER get when talking about future products. H-D and Apple are the two most secretive companies when it comes to the future. So when they 'leak' a comment like the life of the v-twin, it means they're heading a marketing problem off at the pass.

I was at P.O.T. also/ The caterer this year did leave much to be desired.
They kind of skirted around water cooled engines. They mentioned about the weight problem they would have with water cooled engines, but never really counted them out. The future will be interesting.

I would suggest anyone who has a chance to go to P.O.T. should go. They say it takes three trips to cover everything. This was my second year. This is training you can apply at your own job also.

Benny Suggs: The Navy's Beneficial Suggestions program, a method where DON employees, and Navy and Marine personnel can make suggestions to improve various programs and operations.

Maybe he will implement an improvement program for HOG.

Just finished P.O.T. in Las Vegas. Great training. Benny Suggs is quite a character.
Guess who showed up? Willie G and Karen Davidson. First time for Willie G. at P.O.T. Way Cool.
Dinner was good. Entertainment was so-so. Training and the trainers was fantastic.

Themes for the training: Screw it, let's ride. Monday's Suck. Have fun and ride.
