Like many have said - it's a matter of preference and choice - join don't join - more times than not you get out of anything what you put into it.

Talking I gotta whine

Like Superglide05, I have been a member of Hog since October of 1988. I got my 10yr patch, but they don't give a 20yr, said they do give a 25yr. Heck, I gotta wait til 2013 to get it. Hope I make another 20,Thats all I gotta say bout that.

I belong to the national chapter and a local chapter across the lake that a lot of my freinds are in. They have over 200 people in the local chapter and everyone I met seems to be good people. Some do take it to the extream, like it's there total life though.

Anybody remember who said this? (I'm sure the quote is not exactly accurate, but you get the idea)

"I would never join any organization that would have me as a member!"

I believe that was Groucho Marx. I could be wrong but that hasn't happened since 1987.

claydbal will become famous soon enough
i elect to not participate in HOG. to each his own, i just like to ride faster than 45, dont want to get killed by the slinky effect, and dont like stopping every 10 minutes to regroup. your group may be totally different, but the local has one mindset---------meet at 9, leave at 10, stop at every crossroads, ride to another dealer, buy a shirt, be home by noon. its a slow moving train of idiots.

now, how do i join the BOOBS???????????

Are you sayin' that it's HOG or sissy something? LMAO! Me thinks the HOGgers would be more apt to hang at the Donut shop and trade stories about which HD clothing looks better on who.
I, a national hog member and a former Raleigh NC chapter member for
7 years can't remember ever hanging out at any donut shop or discussing clothes of any kind; i do remember riding to Sturgis;riding to York and to Milwaukii;riding to Myrtle;Doing rolling thunder;riding bear tooth pass and the blue ridge parkway and the dragon. And tons of Sunday morning breakfast rides.kma

I have been a life member since the mid 80's and met some real nice people and some real a-holes.I just came to realize that I am not the clubby type. When you have to start voting for presidents and road captains and asst pres and asst to the asst pres....my point is way to many want to be the leader until they are, nobody does the right thing or we never go anyplace cool yadayada.Sidebar stuff you know.....

I like to partake in the benefit things for the community or a fallen family or what ever we can do to help someone out, kids, local playground stuff like that...

I love to ride and you are welcome to come along but I'm not playing whos the toughest or coolest biker thing...

I tried one of the local HOG chapters for a while. We had excellent road captains and I liked the riding safety features. At the same time, I thought it was absurd that the guy in charge of safety didn't believe in helmets. Granted, it's a personal decision where the law allows, but it seemed like a poor example to me.

However, I decided HOG wasn't for me. The goal from MoCo is to "Ride and Have Fun." Only we didn't really ride that much. Instead, it was a lot of charity stuff. Short rides to benefit this or that cause. At the end of the day, it really wasn't fun. I wanted to ride for the joy of riding. Most HOG organizations in the area seem to think their purpose is to be a service organization. OK, that's great for those who enjoy it. Personally, I would've enjoyed more riding and less posturing.

Ultimately I quit when I got stabbed in the back by the leaders. I had volunteered as the webmaster. Some new guy joined who did that sort of thing for a living. He spoke with the director and others to lobby for the position, they voted my ass out without even speaking to me or inviting me to speak at the vote. Hell, I probably would've agreed if they'd done the mature thing and spoke to me about it. Instead, I just got a call from the director one day who told me about the vote (after the fact).

Screw that. I had to wonder why I was hanging out with folks much older than I am who ride very little, stand around trying to sell raffle tickets, and stab me in the back.

That's my HOG experience. I maintain the national membership for the benefits, but I doubt I'd join another local chapter again.
