Moco "friendly'??!!

Moco strikes again.
When you buy a new bike you get a free 1 year national HOG membership, right? Wrong. Six weeks ago I bought my 2008 Road Glide and have seen no membership info. Today I called the National Hog phone line and talked to a representative. After a short conversation I mentioned that the confusion may be because the bike is titled under a revocable trust (all our cars/bikes/house are). She told me that any purchases that come through with revocable trusts (and corporate owners) are deleted. I asked her if she could manually process my membership and she said "no" I would have to have the dealership resubmit the sales and warrantee paperwork in my name. My experience is that when someone says "No I can't" they mean "no I won't".

Has anyone else run into this? I can't join a local HOG without the national. Guess everyone looses.

Just another little aggravation added to the others associated with buying this bike. "Made in America" means what?

I'm done ranting.. I think.
Pete

from my experience any time you place a call to any company, the first person you talk with is always a lower level employee with little, if any, authority to deviate from policy and the least amount of experience in finding the "back door" to established processes.

I'd suggest you take a deep breath, call back, politely ask to speak with a supervisor or manager and then calmly explain your situation. I'd hope that a more senior employee would help you find a solution.

Worth a shot.

Good luck!

Damn, that sucks.

As he said, the first person is never the last word, find someone to help you!

I got my bike a month ago, and got my card and first Hog Tales issue this week.

It won't take long, just stick it to em!

The nice thing about this forum is that you can rant and get it off your chest and get a tap on the forehead by the force of reason. Thanks Husker.

Bowtie, thanks for rubbing salt in the wound!

Texas, They are one way to transfer ownership of assets like cars and homes (and scooters) to someone (like your kids) when you die, without going through probate. My mother had almost everything in a revocable trust (not a lot of $$ but car etc) but her "double wide in FL" was not. The only hassle taking care of her estate was the house. We had to hire a lawyer (cha-ching) to process the home through FL probate. Still don't know why she didn't have the house in the trust. It's a little more complicated than that but that's the short version. When I got through settling her estate, my wife and I decided we'd put everything in a revocable trust. IF we get screened through a Mac grill at 70 (mph not years.. well, years too) the kids get everything with a minimum of hassle. Can you tell I'm a fan of revocable trusts?

bourg, If you have a revocable trust for you and your wife it also would cover young children. You should have still tiled in your name ,it is still coverd under your trust. You withh giveb some bad info there . Also that type of trust does is cover any mojor problems that could come up in an untimely dieth or suit. Or house or properties would fall under the trust regradless if it was in your or your families name . She may have had the house in fl before the trust was made and it was not cover'd before hand ? but i would look in to it more . My family also had a trust and owend land in several states and all was coverd with a trust when transfer to me and my family. Sold one piece of land and had no problems and no probate to deal with just the paper work transferfor title screach. Wear you part of the orginal trust updates from spouce to spuce or to children also ? and do you have siblings? If not that why you have probate. I think reworking the trust to me and mine from mom was 2100.00 bucks. No title changes needed.
I have found that years ago the hog member ship made me a local member free and discounts were anytime, even other stores. Now it seems that you national card is not worth anything at stores unless your a local member too and other than your own dealer or special events it has no use. I now carry AAA recreational coverage and buy online or out of catologs. Local dealer is afar away for me to ride with anyhow.

OK thanks for the education,I have something called transfer on death on my roth and a few other items, I went through a very bad time with my son`s assets after his passing,so I understand where your coming from. But this happens a lot in our little world where you deviate from the standard and it throws everything in katywampus (yeah thats a word ) anyway you probably need to go back to your salesman bet he can get it straightened out....

I can see your frustration. I deal with trusts like this every day. You'd be surprised the number of banks that will not let you have accounts in the name of a trust like this. No to mention mortgage companies who seem to not be able to handle it either. You'd think they'd have it down to a science by now.

However the statement made by the HOG person makes a lot of sense. Since the "Trust" bought your bike, it technically owns it and you (or whomever) is the beneficiary. HOG or any other such organization can't create a membership in a trust's name because the beneficiary isn't readily available and it is also changeable.

Press it with the dealer to resubmit. I don't know if the disparity between the Trust ownership and an individual's name on the warranty, etc... may cause an issue or not down the road.

It may be one of those things where yo have to ask yourself if the juice is worth the squeeze? It seems like a lot of frustration for a $40 HOG membership.

Mungo,
The juice is probably not worth the squeeze. I have been wondering about the warrantee being in the trust name. Guess that is what I should find out about.

Thanks all for the input.
