Just like alcohol, meds effect everyone differently. It may have knocked you on your butt, while another guy may not feel a thing. I know that when my wife had a tooth ache she took one of mine, and she passed straight out, and they don't do anything to me. I will not say that I won't ride with someone who has had a beer, if I think they're straight then cool

Pretty much my point. A beer or two have almost no effect on some people, I know others that are DRUNK after two beers.
I have recieved lots of training in Drug and Alcohol abuse awareness in the Navy.
My point, again was I have read several posts in this thread, about people are just fine with them taking their drugs, but will not ride with some one if they have A Beer.....
That is the pot calling the kettle black if you ask me.
Their Vicadine may have little to no effect on them, and my beer may have even less effect on me.
Heck I would ride with many of my buds after they had four beers before I would ride with most the newbies out their, especially on a Chapter ride....

That would be fine. Just remember to keep your big old hairy boozy breath lips off mine. Remember, chest compressions only. And leave my pants on too. I ain't payin extra for the keister weekend!

If I have to consume meds for pain or othere circumstances, or if I choose to consume alcohol, I wont ride in a group situation.
There are enough variables in motorcycling that I wont put friends at risk if I've been drinking or am somehow incapacitated.

Alcohol Policies
It amuses me to read postings regarding local HOG Chapter issues. Take my advice and read the Chapter Handbook provided by National HOG. Within that book HOG is quite clear in that the liability insurance provided free by Milwaukee is null and void in any instance where alcohol is involved! Alcohol at any HOG function such as a meeting or ride is a no no! After a meeting and if a ride terminates upon arrival at the destination then go for that beer! The liability issue can be quite a legal entanglement and if the chapter is not incorporated--the organizer of the event might just be held liable for any mishaps If you think that I am full of bull--call your HOG Regional Rep or even National HOG!

Everyone's opinion is always welcome, but this thread is 4 months old, this info you provided was already known and was settled long ago.

When I was young and dumb our group would drink and drive all the time, lost a few brothers, became older and wiser left the budwiser and concentrated on the ride instead. I also agree now that I'm older that the drinking should be done at the end of the ride. And stay there till you are sober. The cost of a dui today is out of this world. Do you really need one? One shouldn't need a rule, but today there's allways someone who will screw something up! Club rides need rules, just like road captains.

We have the policy of no alcohol until the kickstand is down and then you are on your own. According to H.O.G. it is about risk. Their insurance covers the chapter during chapter events. Once the event is over, they are no longer at risk, nor is the chapter.
H.O.G. does not tell us one thing and do another, they have a third party to serve alcohol and that takes the responsibility off of them. The minute a chapter serves liquor, then they become at risk. the way I understand it.

It's not a bad idea. I have been on group rides and have seen riders bump and run into each other. Guys have dropped their bikes at stoplights. Always do to a few drinks to many. I agree with your groups policy.

When I drive my car, I allow myself a few drinks...the car's very dear to me, a '67 Mustang I have worked way hard on and have had around since I was 15, and I feel safe doing this.
But on the bike? I NEVER drink and ride. Ever. There's just no margin for error on a bike, and I will not drink and ride.

.......it's mostly about satisfying those who want a cold one.............and secondly, if you do not offer alcoholic beverages, you would be losing revenue.......$$........
there are a lot of people who drink out there..........most responsibly, thank heaven.

Exactly...
When we call "end of ride" a few always head off for a couple... but NEVER as part of the group.
