I am thinking of installing 7 degree mid glide triple trees to my 92 fxr.I was wondering to cut costs, can I (as a fitter/machinist)make and fit extensions to my original forks, without compromising stregth etc?has anyone herd of similar being done?

they actually make them and have for years. my father used them in the 60s. i would not reccomend them, niether would he. they snap and are a weak point. fork tubes are only 100 bucks, its worth it, do it right.

7 degrees sounds a lot to me, better to rake out the steering head on your frame. Check out this site: http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/rakeandtrail.html
You may find your handling becomes dangerous with a negative trail, but good luck anyway.

Forks by Frank - 100 bucks for the pair of slideres, easy to do. replace the seals while your doing the job. They make them in any size over or under you want.

Strognly suggest not going the with 7 degree raked trees, the trail will be adversly effected and you will notice it combined with the stock rake of the frame.

My FXR came from the factory with 28 degrees of rake in the frame, I raked the frame 6 degrees, installed 3" over fork tubes and installed 10" tall Proagessive suspension shocks in the rear.

Definitly worked and looked great.
