Good one. (LOL) When the foam sort of wore out on my FXR3 seat, I would liken the feeling to sitting on the bare frame rails, or maybe the bare seat pan. I was on a trip at the time and remember squirming on that thing for hours at a time. Until then, it had been very comfortable.
I bought my Corbin before I know that I could have my FXR3 seat re-stuffed. I have a friend who does some serious traveling on his FXR and he has a Corbin and swears by it. I had read enough on forums to get the love it or hate it thing, but I swallowed hard and ordered the Corbin. When I took it out of the package, my first thoughts were that it looked great, and fit on the bike perfectly, but sitting on it in the driveway, it felt nearly solid, it was so hard and un-giving. But I have found that I can sit on/in (In, really, because it has a definite "bucket" sort of shape that the rider fits into) that thing for a long time and still be OK. I was quite surprised, myself.
Later, I would find out about Mean City Cycles and their business of re-stuffing seats. I had them do their basic re-stuff of just the rider's part of the FXR3 seat and have been totally pleased. Frankly, had I known about them before I bought the Corbin, I probably wouldn't have. I still switch back and forth depending on circumstances.
