If I were to own a Dyna it would be the FXDX however it is not without its own set of problems.

Depending on what is left from the stock 1986 FXR, it has some issues as well. As far as EVO FXR's go, 92-94 and 99-00 are the only ones I would consider.

All that being said, build and ride whatever one you like the most.

Springer why is it only those years that you would consider I have an 88 that handles great and I have never had any real issues with it . just curious

The late FXR's have much improved electrics and primary drive systems. The starter alone is worth moving to a late model. They also have good gear ratios in the primary.
