Question 84 FXR no front brake light

Had to replace the throttle cables, now I have no brake light when I pull the front brake lever. Rear brake lights up OK. Wiring to front brake is good and voltage to the switch is also good. I think I may have disturbed something in the lever assembly any ideas?

There is a little plunger inside the switch housing that has to be pushed up against the clutch lever perfectly to work. When I messed mine up the brake just stayed on all the time. Maybe yours is stuck in

If you take it apart again and push and release the front brake switch(the little black button) and you don't see the brake light operate, than you probably broke one of the wires on the switch inside the handlebar brake mount. I have an 86 fxst and the wiring is so old that everytime I do work like that, a wire would break off the switch and I'd have to re-solder it back on. I finally broke down and bought a new switch(with new wires pre-soldered on).

Those switches can be finicky. But I feel that it is important to have the brake light work. I know some guys that just give up and put an inline pressure switch in the hydraulic brake line. They are NOT finicky. I think mounting them so they are not unsightly can be an issue. Anyone out there has done this?
