Need to go thru the tranny on my 85 FXR this winter and was thinking of changing to the newer style trap door/end cover.
Most exhausts I see all seem to be for 87-up FXR's and I'm wondering if this is because the clutch arm coming out the top is a clearance issue for the rear pipe.
Is that a simple bolt in replacement? Has anyone done it, or recommend it?
If there is no good reason to do it then I won't bother, but I figured it may be a good upgrade while I'm in there.
I was also thinking about it because I may decide to go with a 6-speed gear set too and those all seem to be being offered for the later style cover. Does that matter? Or will they bolt in the same?
IMO i think its a great idea, I have seen the conversion done but i have not done it myself, while your at it, convert to the later model rear guard struts, then it will look like a 94 model, thats if you have 39mm forks,
