Internal belt drive install

I will be helping a friend install a Primo internal belt drive on his 85 FXR on Monday. I took a look at the install instructions online. They said that early FXR's require some grinding on the primary cases. can anyone who have installed one of these elaborate on how much grinding is required, and where? I want to make sure the install goes smoothly with all the right tools.

Thanks,

Jamie

Some of the internal ribs will touch or be too close to the basket. It will be obvious where to grind when you put the basket on the shaft. Have a die grinder handy. There is not really much to this. Just make sure when everything is together that there is clearance between the inner/outer cases, the belt and basket.

I did one of these on my 86. Had to grind a little off of the jackshaft linkage. Biggest prob. i had was it slipped like crazy when i go it back together. Called B.D.L. and they said sometimes you have to cut off about a 1/4 inch of the tapered output shaft. Did that and it worked like a champ. Only downside i noticed was a lot more vibration at low R.P.M. Best part is the primary doesn't leak anymore
