Low End Torque

I installed a Andrews 27 cam into the stock EVO on my 1987 FXR. I have 2.5 true duals for exhaust. I can tell a difference on the top end band, but am wondering what I can do to up the low end torque band.

Any ideas?

Change the exhaust to a good 2into1 design.

I have a buddy that is installing a V~Thunder EVL-3000 next week into his 2000 FXR4. The EVL-3000 features a intake close angle of 34 degrees compared to that of the EV-27 which is 36.

I have been running the EVL-3010 for 5 years and will be modifying my 99 FXR2 to the EVL-3000 this winter. (Heck for only $100.00 and some gaskets it worth it to play) I believe that moving the intake close angle from 39 which is what the EVL-3010 is to an intake close angle of 34 which is where the EVL-3000 is will be a nice little improvement for the lower end torque helping the cam to feel as though you are getting on it more in the 2700 RPM range which has to do with cam reversion.

Is that enough to make that much difference compared to the EV27 only you can determine that....the cost for the EVL-3000 is around $100.00 without the gear.

I definitely agree with the reflections above that modifying your exhaust away from the 2.5 true duals will help CONSIDERABLY!!!!

You can put some more go in the bottom end and midrange by upping your compression ratio. When you put in a cam that opens earlier or closes later like your EV27 you actually lose a bit of compression down low in the rpm range. Just the nature of the beast. A CR of 10:1 will show some definite improvement all around. Evo's like 10:1. You can do it by going with either different pistons or machine work on either the heads or jugs. You'll have to be more careful not to lug it though.

.080" off the heads will get you in the zone.
Waaaaaay more power throughout the entire rpm range, and a side benefit with be greatly improved fuel enconomy as well.

2.5 true duals ? 87 FXRS. I',m running V&H Straightshots, an EV-46 cam, Dynojet kit in an early 90's CV carb. No dyno stats, but I've seen tests in a magazine with the same combo. Did low 70's horsepower, torque specs were good. Using Hardcore baffles from www.smartpartz.com now to mellow the noise a bit. Seemed to improve an already more than adequate low end torque situation. Still curious as to the identity of true-duals for an FXR.
