1999 FXR2. Any thoughts?

I have a chance to trade my 05 Dyna Super Glide for a 1999 FXR2. My bike has 7K miles on it, the FXR has 17K. My bike has the TC88 motor and the FXR is an EVO.

Any help you can give me with making this decision would be greatly appreciated!

thanks to all who post,
KrustyTC

FXRs are great bikes and the CVO FXR 2,3,and 4 are even better IMHO. Always wanted one. Are you getting a good deal?

A quick ebay search found a few 05 Dyna models priced $8,000-$13,000+. Honestly I don't think you could find an FXR2,3,or 4 for similar money. Why is he willing to trade? Unknown problems?

Of course the choice is yours but I would have a hard time saying no. You will always be able to find anothe 05 Dyna, might never get a CVO FXR chance again?!

Another thing to consider is parts availability for the FXR, pipes etc.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

My first new harley was a 1988 FXR, had it for a long time and miss it.

You might wish to look at the "LINK" above for some information about FXR's in general.

I owned a 2003 FXDL Dyna Low Rider and then purchased a 1999 "ARRESTING RED" FXR2. A year of owning both I sold the 2003 FXDL Dyna Low Rider. While the FXDL was a nice bike.....and of course had more power....the handling, performance, and over all excitement of owning the FXR was superior in my opinion.

As for giving up a "Twin Cam" for an "EVO" I still own a 2002 RKC as well, and the evo is easier to work on AND is just as much fun to have as a power plant.

I could go on and on....but as has been written above my post....the simple answer is you won't regret the decision to move towards an FXR and away from your "Twin Cam". There are many reasons....if you take a peek at the "LINK" above you might establish a better frame work from which to draw your decision from.

I wish you well with your decision.

Regards,

"Classic"

Right now I'm still trying to get all the details from the guy. It's Arresting Red. 18K miles (not 17 like I said before). Appears to be completely stock from the picture he sent (which I'll post after I resize it). He has it listed on craigslist for $9500.00 or best offer. As I said I'm still trying to get all the details like why is he selling etc.

Will keep you all posted.

thanks,
KrustyTC

Here is the picture he sent me. He added forward controls but still has the mid-pegs mounted.

I've read the FXR history and thank you for all the information. As I said I'm a big fan of the FXR. Which is why I bought the Dyna because it was the closest bike to an FXR at the time. I realize I could have bought a used FXR but decided to go new. I had sold my 02 Sportster 883 Custom which I also bought new and wanted to move up to a Big Twin.

Now after finding I don't do as much 2 up riding as I thought I would I've decided to see about getting the FXR I've always wanted. I was searching craigslist and came across this deal and emailed the guy selling and asked if he was interested in a trade.

His first reply was "why would you want to trade a newer bike with less miles for an older bike with more?" I explained my love of the FXR so he asked me to send a picture of my bike. That's where we stand right now.

later,

The latest update:

I'm going to keep my bike for now. I can't get any solid information on the FXR from the current owner. I've emailed him several times and can only get short answers. Maybe he's just not into emailing. But if your trying to sell/trade your bike I would think you would want to provide whatever information anyone interested in it would be looking for.

I rode my bike a lot this weekend and I'm very happy with it. I can easily set it up for 2 up or solo riding in a few minutes. Plenty of power and it fits me.

Still a huge FXR fan and maybe someday I'll have one but right now I'm not willing to give up my Dyna for one.

thanks to all who have posted!

Man, clean FXRs of all ages are steadily drifting thru ebay. I'm often surprised at how many stock (or nearly so), low mileage, nice FXRs are still around.
