Where to buy engine guard for 82-94 FXR

I've been looking for hours on the net trying to find an engine guard for my 1993 FXR. I see plenty of one for Dyna's but I believe they're the wrong size. I do see one from Jardene but I don't see a place to mount the highway peg. At 6'2" I need that low mounting hole like on the OEM engine guards that Harley used to sell. I then shift and brake with the back of my heels, after 16 years of doing this it is the only way I feel comfortable. I checked Harley's site too and found nothing.

Reason I need a new guard? Attended Johnstown Bike Week and when coming down off a mountain ran across a rough railroad crossing, stood up on the highway pegs and cracked the mount in two! Lucky it held even cracked (Peg bolt pressure kept mount squeezed together) or I would have jammed my foot into the road!...OUCH!!!

The parts for the old Superglides seem to be drying up!

Welcome to the Forum!

I presume you have had your HD dealer do an on-line search for the part within the dealer system?

Is there a problem with just welding the part?

Could be an ebay pick up but you might be able to have it rewelded from the back so it still looks clean....

Yeah, I thought about rewelding it too, that might happen. I haven't inquired with the dealer yet because it always seems like they are all for selling you a new bike or "motorclose" but act like helping someone with a less than latest model bike is a PIA. I understand all dealers aren't like this but it seems I run into it more and more. I had a sales girl even comment "Wow a 1993! Thats really old". Well I bought it brand new and I'm VERY attached to it...It's still new to me.

Actually, I've had the guard off the last few day's and I'm starting to like the looks of it that way. So who knows, I did order highway peg brackets just incase I don't put guards back on. Also on the way back from Johnstown I developed a bad vibration so suspecting the cam bearing I had it replaced along with adjustable push rods and an Andrews EV27 cam. Then the carb was messed up so that was fixed (new body) along with a new petcock and fuel lines. Needless to say funds are now a little low so I'm in no big rush...She runs GREAT now though!!!

My FXRT now has a new Street Glide crash bar on it. Mounts had to be cut off of it and FXR mounts welded on. It provides better coverage/protection and looks much better than the stock unit.

Now I'm wondering how to make FL lowers work with an FXR fairing.
