1990 FXRP oil vent into air cleaner

I'm looking to make a deal for a 1990 FXRP 12000 miles on it Going to do a roof in exchange for the bike. My question is he started the bike and oil was shooting into the aircleaner area he says this is normal and when the bike warms up it stops shooting oil. I dont know alot about Harleys yet but it sounds strange to me. The roof will only cost me about $3000.00 since i used to do roofing. Am i getting a good deal or a headache? Thanks for any input.

Slap that roof on. The oil coming out the breather is a common issue, the oil leaks down from the oil tank into the crankcase, usually due to a dirty or damaged check ball valve. When the bike is started, some of the oil blows out the breather. Easy fix.

12k miles? Are you getting a deal? Unless you are putting a roof on a shopping mall or the bike is a wreck, you are getting a terrific deal.
