In process now.... a touring model drive train basically fits all the mounting dimensions. Two frame cross members need to be relocated under the transmission to clear the oil pan. The rest is basically up to how you want to build it. There will be several other issues that will require some consideration but nothing major IMO.

No pictures yet. Yes both need to be moved. I have been collecting parts and have about 95% of the parts and will likely start it this winter. I'm in no rush as I have 2 other bikes I ride.

Personally I would not start with a perfectly good bike. I started with a frame and will build ground up. Your bike is complete and ready to go.

Its actually not a perfect bike, anymore ..on the way home from Sturgis the crank pin bearing failed and all subsaquent parts followed, Pistons barrells crank rods valves etc....
so the question now is to rebuild the EVO, previously had 96 hp or do the twin cam thing.... motor is out and in the hospital on life support, no, really its all in pieces waiting for a decision...

You'll notice the quote above that you responded to was actually intended for "frtdrmrose7".

If you want a Twin Cam without changing anything on the frame,
S&S makes a twincam/evo mount in a variety of performance engine sizes. Are you looking for a Harley engine or aftermarket-what size?

I think to start I will go with a Harley 88cu and go from there when the mony is right.
I also want the twin cam tranny and primary. can you tell me what year and model I will need to buy for the easist fit ?
Is there a recipe/list of parts that work and have been provin, do I also need to change the coil, wiring harness etc...???

I was thinkning about buyng salvage Road king or Electra and swap engines, trans just everything (including brake calipers, handlebars controls etc). Yesterday I saw 2008 or 2009 electra - just engine and frame- that would be probably cheaper then new evo engine. Only thing which I worry aout is electronic. I would like to use carb abd get rid of EFI and all electronic stuff.

from what I have learned you can use a wiring harness from a Dyna if you want EFI,
if you are going Carb you can use your FXR harness, if you want the road king oil pan you must move the cross member, OR ,cut out and then cover the oil pan and you can use your FXR oil bag.
since my S&S cases and S&S heads are still good I will just get the 96 inch S&S big bore Hot set-up kit, its cheaper and faster.......
