Hmmm,glad I traded in my '89 Ultra before it failed then.
Bought it used as a stablemate for my FXR then traded it in with a little less than 50K on the clock for my 2000 Classic which I still ride and have 172,000 miles on.

I traded mine for the 1998 Ultra. Good but so much better after I went back to the CV.
I hated the MM FI.

When I bought my 2000 new I had the choice of buying it with a CV 40 carb or an identical bike with the MM EFI,I chose the carb and glad I did.
I have a CV 44 now feeding a 95" motor,works great and very reliable.

The '98 Ultra only came with the EFI. No CV.

Are you sure?....was that because it was an Ultra and not a Classic or Std.?
Never heard that before,thought carbs were an option well into the 2000's on any model.
I wanted the Classic when I bought new,didn't really have a use for the CB radio and all the other gingerbread.
Being a long term owner type and high mileage rider I prefer simple/reliable with less stuff to go wrong anyway.

If my memory if correct (and sometimes it ain't), Ultra's were only available with EFI starting sometime in the mid 90's. Classic's were either or. Standard's were carb only.

I think you guys are right about the EFI being standard on the '98 Ultra. My '98 Road King Classic, which I bought new, only came with fuel injection. As much bad rap as the MM injection gets, I've never had a lick of problems with it. I would never even consider putting a carb on it. In fact if I had the money I'd put a 103ci fuel injected w/6 speed in my FXR.

People bad mouth fuel injection but I don't think there has been an American made production car with a carb for 20+ years!

Hey Ultra89rider I had a 90 FXR-Sp for a shop R&D bike,sold it to a friend and 3 years later the pinion shaft broke,when they went to repair it they found the left hand race was loose in the case also.I have seen loose races in 4,1990 left cases.The SP was awsome for power and handleing though.Comp 10.5 30 degree pistons,Wood W-8 cam heads had 1.95 and 1.625 valves with mega head work.
