I have a stock 79 shovel and was running fine until one day it starts missing and backfiring. I thought maybe plugs and wires but its backfiring a blue flame from both pipes, coil, carb any suggestions would be helpful. I dont think its the timing cuz i popped the cover and it s not loose and doesnt look like its moved.
If using a mechanical advance unit check and see if its damaged? broken springs, or stuck in one position not advancing or retarding . The hotter running temperatures of summer running get to the advance units quicker causing failure
I changed plugs, wires intake seals and cleaned carb and ground contacts. seems to be running fine now but only took it for a short blast. Thanks for the help.
No points, electronic ignition. Seems to be fixed . Not sure what the prob was as i changed and cleaned everything all at once, not one thing then ride, another then ride.......
