carburetor/fuel tank clearance problem

I recently bought a 76 fxe.Came with fat bobs and an older mikuni carb. Carb is about an inch too tall, makes contact with tank. Anybody else run into this problem?

Tank & Carb Conflict

I had the same problem with my 5 gallon tank's and my oricinal S&S carb.I ended up denting the tank in where it came in contact with the air cleaner. Of course it was'nt enough so I then ground away a bit of the air cleaner and that did the trick.

When I got a "New" S&S Super E , it cleared the tank's just fine.

I have an 82 flh with a s&s super e and had to use a 1" spacer to clear the right tank.

Spacer
