You don,t need to remove the battery cover to charge the battery. Just remove the seat and you have access to the battery terminals for charging.

Yep, and when you reinstall the seat, don't worry about reinstalling the grab strap that no one ever uses. Get a battery tender, hook the pigtail up to the battery terminals, and run the cable out to a discrete area.

I don't know what year Low Rider you've got, but on my '06 Dyna you definitely can't access the battery terminals simply be removing the seat. You must however remove the seat before the battery cover will hinge up and come off. This varies depending on what seat you have. There is a small screw at the bottom of the battery cover.
Some tips:
Attach to the positive terminal first. Then attach the negative, preferably not to the battery terminal, but to some other ground like the engine or frame. Plug the charger in last and unplug it first when done. Also disconnect it before cranking over the engine unless your charger is designed to jump-start

On my '05 Lowrider - remove the bolt on the side towards the engine, up under the seat - this one holds the battery tray up into it's position. Then on the bottom of the battery tray there is a bolt you loosen and the battery tray will slide down, you can then remove the cover and access the terminals.

Am I the only one that uses the terminal on the starter for charging the battery? I just lift the rubber boot to the big wire that goes directly to the battery and attach the positive clamp to that terminal. The negative hooks to any good bolt on the frame. Never have to remove the seat.

Take off the seat and you can access it. Look into a battery tender, connect the harness and then just leave it. tuck it up and out of the way during riding season. Just pull it out and plug it in during storage. Simple and works great.

I do have a battery tender plug that stays on the bike. It's tucked behind the battery cover. It only takes 90 seconds to remove the seat and battery cover, so I leave it tucked out of sight instead of hanging down by the swingarm like it did on my '02 Dyna

Not without leaving the switch on (bad). Unless the lighter is hardwired to the battery.
