Dyna footboards
I am trying to switch from forward controls to footboards on my 2000FXD, there used to be an HD kit for this that is now obsolete, and some of the individual parts that were in the kit are also obsolete. Does anyone know of anyplace that might still have these?? I have not found anything aftermarket that is even close to the original HD kit in fit and function.

I believe the kit is 50601-02, I bought mine used on ebay. I had to buy a few items extra to get it to work. Once on it looks great.

Though the kit is obsolete, you can still order the parts separately. Tell your parts guy to pull up his book for the Dyna Defender Police Bike, and order the parts that apply.

I ordered the parts and put a "kit" together about a month ago. No problem with the availability of any parts. They cam in about a week later. That said its kind of expensive but I really like the end result. (My FXRs all had footboards.)
Another option you might consider: I was in the Hays Kansas dealer's shop today and saw a used FXD with forward controls. It had footboards mounted into the slot where the footpeg would ordinarily go. Looked very clean so I am guessing it is an aftermarket product. The footboards were standard sized and very much looked like they belonged on the bike.
As you already have forward controls, it seems like you could get some FL footboards and weld up brackets that would work.

dealer search
Many dealers will do a dealer search for you if you are a good customer, the last one being a 1998 gas tank with original paint, and my dealer put out a dealer wide search. Had a brand new, but dusty take off tank Vintage 1998.
many obsolete parts are sitting on some dealers back room shelf somewhere, and they love to get rid of it.

My dealer told me there was no way to contact all the other dealers about this kind of part inquiry, perhaps they just didn't want to.

My dealer has done a number of dealer searches for me, and as I mentioned the last one being an obsolete 1998 gas tank with the original paint, that was sitting on a delers shelf somewhere in the mid west. It was a little dusty and had some very fine finger print scratches in it but had never seen gas, (New take off). Got it for 1/3 of new and my dealer had his shop throw a buffer on it....Brand new!
As long as your dealer can get a last known part number, they can do a dealer wide search, is what I was told. I just checked with Brooke our local Harley parts manager before I wrote this reply.

HD still sells Dyna Defenders, and they still come with floorboards. Your parts guy is giving you a line of bull if he says those are obsolete numbers. There are good parts guys out there who can trace this stuff down because they now how to navigate HDs computer systems. When you find a guy (or gal) like that, treat them good because they will make your life so much easier down the road.

I had the Parts Guy put together a footboard kit for my 2005 FXDI from a Dyna Defender Parts Manual (he used an '04 manual). It took about a week to get the parts in. In the interim the link below was posted, it is a pdf file of the footboard kit instructions and contains a parts list. Hope it helps.

As far as piecing together this kit....
If you can't get the kit somewhere and you really want the Dyna Defender Floorboards and go to order the pieces separately, you will run into "obsolete" part numbers. For those interested here's how it stands as far as ordering the brake pedal assembly which is the part that stops most in their tracks...these two part numbers below sub out original but now obsolete part number 33699-01a (brake pedal assembly) they are part numbers:
33711-02 (brake pedal)
33689-02 (brake pedal pivot shaft)
They broke the assembly into two pieces & the design is different. Installs the same EASY.
The other part that I heard may go obsolete that you may run into was the shifter (33704-01). I obtained this part through a dealer special order a few months ago. It was in a "limited availability" state when I got it a few months ago. If this has gone to the "obsolete" stage, I would have the dealer do a "national search" for one on the shelf. Hope this info helps someone who's looking into piecing together a Dyna Defender Floorboard kit.
I have the heel toe shifter for sale if anyone's interested. It has the rubbers on it. I would have kept it but my foot is too big (size 12's) to fit in between the shifter pegs.
