Squeeking when hitting dips
I have a 04 wideglide and when you hit a dip or get close to bottoming out the bike squeeks almost like metal on metal i really cant tell where its comming from i believe its the swing arm. My question is has anyone had or heard of this problem and is there anything on the swingarm that needs a grease job or something like that. oh btw this has been going on since i got it but its not that often so i dont really want to go to the stealer about it..
Any thoughts would help
Thanks

Not sure if it's the same problem but my dyna used to squeek when hit dips in the road too. I wasn't sure where it was coming from either. I just installed Rev Tech emulators and springs and now the noise is gone. When I drained the fork oil it looked like brown mud. Not sure why, I didn't see any real rust on anything. Don't know, but the noise is gone.

i have a 98 wg ,but it doesn't squeak often enough to bother me yet. could be the shock stud mounts, the swing arm bushing,or the rear motor mount. i checked motor mount torque, okay. might try some silicone spray on one at a time ,then check. it's definately not the front forks.

Well, I didn't think it was the forks either until I fixed it in a round about way. I'd try cleaning the fork sliders and put some oil on the seals and see if it makes any difference.

When I hit dips, it's more of a screaming / yelling sound.

My 04 has done it since new...not all the time, and not all dips. Sounds more like a rubber on metal squeak.

Well, I don't know specifics for your bike, so the only thing I can offer is a possible test approach.
If you have, or can find, a swingarm stand which raises the bike by the swingarm so the rear tire is off the ground, but the suspension is still loaded (mine cost $15), put it up on the swingarm stand, load it up till the rear shocks are pretty much fully compressed, start the motor, run it into any gear, and then you can just bounce on the seat with your hand while you get your eyes and ears down close to the problem. You can vary the load, gear and revs as you wish.
You can get the max load rating from the book (or someone here will know). 50lb sacks of concrete work well.
Can't guarantee it will find the problem, but it's the only way I know to go at it single handed.
I know But I did it last week on another bike and it works.

I have a 2000 Super Glide, I too was hearing a noise like what was described when hitting dips and bumps in the road. For me it turned out to be related to the shifter linkage. I have forward controls and where the toe shifter shaft goes through the mounting bracket was the source, it's still there, I don't worry about it now that I know what it is.

Check to be sure the top of the drive belt is not hitting the rear fender when the rear suspension is fully compressed. Should be obvious rub damage to the fender if it is.

thanks for all the ideas i know its not the front end i will try the silicone spray on some stuff hopefully that will stop it... i dont think its the fender since i really gave it a good look over looking for rub marks.. it seems like this is a cronic issue with dyna since i'm not the only one.. as soon as i get it licked i will post what it was...
thanks again

My sqeaky noise in what I thought was the swingarm turned out to be the stud that the seat strap mounts on. I put a white-sized vaccum cap on it and the noise went away. I am not sure if all packages of vaccum caps are the same color or whatever but i'm sure you can figure it out ;-) Might be something to try.
