Oh No

Coming home last night, my buddies 98 superglide started shifting weird. We got to his house and we were going to head out again and the bike would not shift. Shifter lever just flopped back and forth no engagement. The shaft going into the tranny just freely rotated.. We are pulling the tranny cover and primary tonight. Doesn't look good??

Anyone want to venture a guess on what we will find???

He does beat the crap out of his bike. Its a 100 hp motor and he is constantly doing wheelies and hole shots!!

I warned him.

Could be a number of things. Hopefully just a broken linkage connection. Keep us posted.

Linkage is fine, the shaft going into the tranny just spins.

Any other guesses. It did not make any griding noises as if anything exploded???

My guess would be that the bolt that holds the shift lever on the splined shaft that goes into the tranny loosened up and the splines on the shaft or lever are stripped. Or something minor with the shifting pawls. It doesn't sound like anything real bad but I am sure you will let us know what you find.

Superglide + wheelies + hole shots + 100 hp = You reap what ya sow. Sounds like your buddy needs a Ducati Monster or a Buell. Just giving him shiite. Hope it's an easy fix...that way when he busts it again he'll know what to look for first.....

Broken shifter pawl. Never seen that happen before. Damn I also thought bro was smarter then this....molassas like tranny oil. I said when was the last time you changed this oil.....comment " Oh ah I never have!" How often are you suppose to...Just for a note, he has never changed the primary oil either. A local indy changes his motor oil so he just assumed?????
