Found an FXDI!!!!!
I had posted a while back about the BS I received at Danbury HD in Danbury, CT.
Well I found my bike today!!!!!
I took a ride up to Woodstock HD in Woodstock, NY. They had a Chopper Blue FXDI with SPOKES in stock for MSRP plus 225 dealer prep. If everything goes as planned I should pick it up on Friday.
I am pretty psyched right now.
The only downside is I will be trading in my Impact Blue 2004 1200R Sportser. The bike has been great and it will be missed. I have put just under 11,000 miles on it since May 2004. I hope I am making the right choice. I test road a 2005 FXDLI with Stage1, While the bike was more comfortable it did not have the get up and go nor the rawness of my Sporty but I think it may just be a matter of getting used to the different power delivery of the Dyna.
I had planned to pay off the Sporty and then go with a bigger bike but after hearing the rumors about the 2006's and Calif emissions I decided to get the Dyna now plus I will be going to Sturgis this summer and I would like something a little more comfortable since we are planning on riding 500-600 miles a day to get there from NY.
Right now the first mods on my list is a set of reasonably priced highway pegs, a set of good quality saddle bags (American Eagle, Leatherworks or Boss) and a set of slip ons, Free Flow A/C and TFI or DFO probably in that order.
Can't wait till Friday now!

I don't think it'll be as quick as the Sporty, but the open road manners are way better.
I have a '04 FXDI stage 2, 95" and love that thing. Not as nimble as my '69 Sportster was, though.
Enjoy!!!!

I don't think I am even going to think of the Stage1 for a while since I want to get the bike set up with saddle bags and highway pegs or forward controls first.
I think my first purchase is going to be either a set of highway pegs like the ones on the FXDL or a set of forward controls. I can't believe how much HD wants for highway pegs. They want $149 plus the pegs versus $300 for the forward controls. If I decide to go with the highway pegs I will probably end up going to VTwin MFG.
Well I am out of here now. Off to the credit union, which is about an hour away then another hour up to Woodstock HD to pick up my new bike.

I picked up my 05 FXDi last year, and wanted to have highway pegs put on as well. Instead of ordering the chrome highway pegs out of the catalog, I had the dealer look up all the stock parts in the Parts catalog for the FXDL and had them installed on my bike...I believe you'll be able to save a couple bucks that way. The black support bracket didn't bother me, since my bike was black.

Thanks for the tip but I think I will probably end up with the forward controls. I think VTwin MFG has highway pegs for about $75.
I picked up the Dyna today and put close to 100 miles on her. She is very well behaved and quite comfortable but the break in is really tough and it just seems so strange riding a quiet bike.
I had planned to wait for the stage1 but I think I will get a set of SEII slip ons, some sort of intake and a TFI right after I have my 1000 mile service done which I figure should be in about 3 or 4 weeks.
What intakes are most of you guys running?
I had the SEII intake on my Sporty and the air cleaner ended up full of wholes after about 3000 miles. It was such poor quality that I don't think I want to give HD anymore of my money on an intake although I was very satisfied with the slipons.

I'm running the exact setup you're proposing on my 05 FXDI too. SE II Pro+ slip-ons, SE aircleaner and a TFI...and I really like the combo. I opened up the baffles slightly, and I'm running the SE air cleaner (with the K&N filter) "naked" and using the recommended TFI settings, the combo runs like a top, sounds real good without being obnoxious, and looks rather unique. The best part is was I bought the SE stuff on eBay cheap ($60 for the A/C and $150 for the slip-ons and billet endcaps, new). Go for it...you'll like it!

I plan to stay with the xlforum and I still read it everyday. I plan to stay and see what all of you guys are up to with your Sporty's. I put 10,800 miles on my 04 1200r in 12 months and it was a tough choice for me deciding to part with it but I knew I would eventually want something a little more comfortable and when I heard the rumors that the 06's may have catalytic converters I decided to make the switch. Since I quit smoking I am putting a portion of the savings towards the bike payment.
I really enjoy the Dyna but I felt like I was betraying my Sporty when I handed the keys over to the dealer.
Thanks and I hope you are still off the Cigarettes.

Congrats on the new ride! I have an '05 Chopper Blue FXDI as well and I absolutely adore it. I know what you mean about feeling like you betrayed your other bike - but I'm sure it would understand (watching a buddy of mine ride off on my old GS1000 kinda broke my heart a bit... till I turned around and saw my beautiful Harley sitting in it's place)

Thanks.
Initially I wanted Black (never had or wanted a black vehicle before this) with laced wheels. I found one dealer with a black and mags coming in the end of May. I found another dealer with the Chopper Blue with Laced wheels in Chopper Blue and the bike was in stock so I ended up with the Chopper Blue. Initially I didn't really care for the Chopper Blue but the color has really grown on me and I like it now. I have got allot of compliments on the color too.
I installed the HD forward controls on the bike last night. Everything went well except I do not have the correct size Torx bit for the bolt that holds the brake peal on the bike. Man I hate those Torx bolts.
I can't wait to get the Stage 1 done and I also want to add a set of good leather saddlebags.
So far I am very happy with my new ride.

Hey man, got a pic of the bike with the forward controls? Which ones did you go with?
I have been thinking about a set of forward controls since I seem to shift with my heels most of the time since I put the highway pegs on (I can't even stand the mid pegs anymore, I'll leave them on there so I have an alternative for my feet, but the controls need to move).

If it ever stops raining here I wil get you a picture.
The install was very easy and straight forward and it is very easy to adjust the height of the shifter and brake pedal.
I had the adjustable highway pegs on my Sporty and I used them 99% of the time.
I am 6ft and I find that the forward controls on the Dyna allow me to REALLY stretch out, even more than on the Sporty with highway pegs.
The only cons I can see with the forward controls are:
- pushing forward to brake versus pushing down I feel like I have less control but I think I will get used to this.
- Because the heel of my boot hangs below the foot peg I scared the pi$$ out of myself when my heel scraped the road going around a turn on the backroads.
