01 Dyna FXDXT rear tire max size
With all this 180 talk going on, just to set the record straight....what's the biggest rear tire I can put on a 2001 fxdxt with NO mods....I think it comes with a 140 stock?

I put a 150 under my 01 Wide Glide....That's definitely the max for it. Yours has a different fender, but it should still be the same....150 MAX. Stock is a 130 I believe.
It makes a big difference in the look though, more than I thought it would.
I don't have a shot of it straight on, but you can tell the difference in this picture. I can get a shot straight on for you if you want, let me know...

GS, are your shocks shorter than stock?
Stock length or 1/2 more should help keep the fender off the tire. yes/no?

They're the HD "Profile Low" shocks made by FOX. They're 1" shorter than stock.

150?
The Harley dealer here in Portland is tellin me the bike will need mods to put a 150 on....what gives? Are they full of crap or what? They mentioned the pulley? I really didn't get detailed with them because I felt as if I was talking to the "wrong guy".

I've got a 150 on my '99 Wideglide. This is the max tire that will fit with no mods. I believe that the fenders changed in 2004? to a little wider. Mine is a Metzler and I have heard, that an Avon fits better.

2002 FXDL; comes stock with a 150; no mods except turning the bolts around, and currently running a Avon VenomX 160.

Dude at the dealer tells me....
Get this,
Dude at the Harley dealer here in the Portland area (Latus Motors) tells me I MIGHT be able to fit a 140 Metzler on the back of my FXDXT. He said "it depends on which day it was made....if it was a Monday bike or a Friday bike it may not fit because the tolerances may be off...." can you believe that crap. He said the 150 is def out....This dude was not joking either..Think he's right?? Another local dealer said the Avon Venom X's would fit better due to their "low profile". Anyone running a FXD or a FXDL or a FXDX Or XT with a oversize rear tire...most of the reply's have come from people with WG's....doesn't really help me due to the differences in the rear fender set up....I want to put the max size without mods....

150?
If you have a 2001 FXD get the 150. I put the Avon 150m Venom on my '01 FXD which has lowered shocks (11") . This puts the fender even closer to the tire. You'll be fine.
Ride safe and long

I'm running a 150 Avon Venom on my 2001 Lowrider and have used both the stock fender and the wide glide fender and it fits without any modifications at all but having said that you may want to check the fender strut bolts are not too long as it's a close fit in 2001 and earlier models and I've seen some with slightly longer bolts than mine.
In 2002 they came out stock with the 150 tyre but HD made the fender a little wider and also changed the frame at the rear to suit it. That's why in the HD accessories book you'll see that sissy bars are different for 2002 onwards.
My dealer also said it wouldn't fit but it does and also the rim size is OK for the 150 tyre and is the same rim size as 2002 and later.
I also found that the 150 Avon Venom is just a little wider than the stock 150 (Harley)Dunlop.
Do it you'll love it as it looks great and really fills the fender.

As was mentioned, you can get a 150 to fit, but might have to turn the fender strut bolts around. I took the shocks off and lowered the bike 2-2.5" (max travel of the shock) on the jack to see if the bolts would touch. It looks like there's about 1/4" clearance on the brake side. The belt side had plenty of room.

The 2002 and newer Dynas have a different swingarm and fender than the 2001 and earlier ... plus the FXDXT has a saddlebag mount brace hidden on the underside of the fender that the other Dynas do not.
