Bolts Already....

The belt side had plenty of room.

The bolts are already turned due to the saddle bag bushings...it's the width of a hex head (3/8"?) high....as far as Tom's remark...I do not detect any special bracket on the inside of the fender for saddlebag support....

Maybe it's only on the 2002 and newer FXDXT's. I haven't looked under a 2001 fender. It's a flat metal brace supporting the rear of the fender, where the pin for the saddlebag push-button release sticks through the fender.
Buddy of mine upgraded his 2001 FXDXT to a 150 rear tire using a kit supplied by the dealer. Dunno what was in the kit besides a narrow drive belt.

The pin you mention is just to lock in the saddlebags...I don't think it's very big...I'll look on the underside of the fender to make sure....I thought 2001's had the narrower belt already....hmm...more research

I put a 150 dunlop on the rear of my 2000 FXDX, it is not the T model, which the only difference should be the side bags, and Fairing. same frame, shocks etc...
The FXDX suspensions not the same bike as the other DYNA family of bikes.
Dual discs up front.

Whatever the stock size is for an 03. It's. 16" rim. I forget the width. FWIW I run a 17" 160 on my 03 that was a takeoff from a newer FXD and it's tight but fits.

I have a 00 dx and a 01 dxt they both have the dunlap kt591 150 tire on them it fills the fender nicely the only thing I had to do was grind the bolt heads down.

2 weeks ago I installed a 150 Perelli Night Dragon on my 01 FXDXT. Plenty of clearance.

i've owned my 01 fxdx since new. it came with a 150/16 from the showroom. you could go 160 safely. the all other dyna's came with a 130, reason the fxdx would fit the 150 waas the turn signal bar near the taillight as apposed to mounted on fender struts. wires going thru the strut will get rubbed through with the bigger tire. my dad experienced this with his standard due to shop installing wrong tire. i now run a 180, but i've cut the struts off the frame, mounted a newer fender to some hand made struts and don't put anyone out back!!

Did anyone ever consider that it is not the fender clearance that is the problem but the drive belt that might be too close to the tire if a wider tire is put on? I have my wheel off right now installing a new Michelin Commander 2 tire so I can't check it. It is a 160-70/17 stock size.

It makes a big difference in the look though, more than I thought it would.
I don't have a shot of it straight on, but you can tell the difference in this picture. I can get a shot straight on for you if you want, let me know...

My '03 FXDX has a solid Duece 17" wheel with a 160 Venom, it sits close to the belt but has never rubbed.

I put on A avon venom 160 on my 99" fxdx, and it is slightly rubbing the drive belt. mostly noticeable when "backing up"

150 Metzler 880 on my '02 fxdx-t and I have no urge for a 160. There is no need for it.
