Wires in handlebars

Hey DynaGlide owners, I need a hand. I changed the bars on my softail and ran the wires inside the bars. It was easy as I could simply unplug them just under the tank and disconnect the individual wires from the connector.

I am helping a buddy put the same bars on his 01 FXDWG and it looks more difficult. It looks as though the wiring harness actually runs into the frame. Where does it exit and can we get to the connectors to disassemble them like I did on my softail?

We are thinking of just cutting and splicing the wires. We don't need to extend them, but it looks to be the easiest way. Are we missing something? How do you DynaGlide owners run your wires inside your bars?

Thanks,
Lardog

I did my wide glide and yes, getting the the mini deutsch connectors does involve at minimum taking off the seat and gas tank. Thers an extra 6 inchest of wire harness under the seat that you need to feed through to the front of the back bone. Also on the other side of the backbone you will need to cut the zip tie that's attached to a rubber grommet to be able to pull the wires through.

I didn't post detailed instructions, but there are some pics posted of how far I had to strip the bike down to get it done.

The service loop of extra harness length is reached by removing the plastic access panel on the inside front of the rear fender. Remove the panel, cut the cable ties, and feed the wire into the rear of the frame while someone else pulls it out the front. The connecotres will come out of the front of the frame. It really helps to remove the rear wheel, or at least put the bike on a lift and let the swingarm sag so you can get your hand up in there to access the panel.

Thanks for the input guys. Kinda re-affirmed what we both were thinking. He endes up just cutting and splicing the wiring near the controls. Was able to pull enough slack due to the switch from the stock mini apes to Burly T-bars.
