Upgrade FXDL Rear Shocks
Ok, I know this has been mentioned before, but I think I'm wanting to upgrade my rear shocks on my '02 FXDL. With my babe on back, and a 25 lb. SAC bag, it just feels like its on the verge of bottoming out, which it did once, crossing the RR tracks. It already has the upgraded FOX shocks on, (listed in the H-D catalog, above the dyna stock shocks) so is it possible to get an insert, or whatever it takes to possibly give it a 1/2"-1" lift? On that model shock, there are no adjustment "ticks" you can go by to know for sure, wether or not your at the stiffest setting. Any help/comments would be greatly appreciated!!

The Fox shocks are 1/2" lower than stock shocks on an FXD, right? They're
the stock length for a low-rider though. Sounds like you may need to replace them with a shock that gives you stiffer dampening.
If the fox shocks are chrome and you're thinking of selling them, PM me....

Roc, check out Progressive Shocks. Have used them on several different Dynas over the years and really like they way they perform.

Put the Progressive 440's on my 98 FXD what a difference in ride quality and stopped the bottoming out when adjusted for different loads on the bike! They are 11 inch eye to eye shorter then stock HD shocks but rides like a completely different Bike.

I'm 6' 270 and was bottoming out over medium-sized bumps. Took the WG to my indy and he gave me a freebie pre-load adjustment. What a difference!
I guess my point is that unless you do a lot of 2-up riding, consider adjusting the stock rears before spending $$ you may not need to spend.
Unless, of course, you WANT the premium shocks then go for it!

At 6’1” 185 lbs, I’ve found the next to the softest setting on my stock shocks are perfect for solo riding. If I have to ride two up (which I hate), I simply take my spanner and adjust the shock up another notch or two to accommodate the extra weight. The bike handles great and doesn’t bottom out.
Why in the world would you need to replace the adjustable stock rear shocks?

I am your same weight. My lady is 140#. We bottom out frequently and have to really watch how we take turns due to scraping (usually on right turns). I am on stiffest setting on rear shocks. Bike is getting progressive 440's based on info from this forum and I will let you know if that solves my problem.

Skip, I put a pair of FXDX shocks on my FXD. The only thing I don't like is that they raised the rear fender, but the trade-off is MUCH better handling, plus they look cool with brushed aluminum and black springs.

Skip, I just noticed that you have a Lowrider. I don't think that those tall-ass FXDX shocks would be ideal. I assume you bought a Lowrider because you want a lowrider.
Come to think about it about, after reading about those 440s, I wish I got me a pair.
Sorry about the totally useless posts.
