"TANK AIR"

OK, I've tried and tried to fix this, but I've run out of ideas.

I put 11K miles on my Wideglide last year, so you can see that we tend to wrap up a few miles on weekends.

To help with the trips, I purchased an H-D Super Sport detachable windshield and for a while was perfectly content with the results. - No bugs and stones in the face, no beating of wind on your chest, no having to hang on for dear life at 70 MPH, etc. BUT...............There was still a LOT of air coming UP from the tank area ("tank air"), blowing my beard straight up.

At a 50% off sale, I bought a 100 Anniversary FULL SIZED detachable windshield with the idea of using it only on long trips and the sport windshied on short ones.

Well, after finally trying out the full sized windshield this week, the buffeting on the body was WAY better, but I SWEAR there is MORE "tank air" than with the little one.

Any ideas on how to stop "tank air" on trips?

I get the same effect from my windvest. I haven't figuered out a way around it short of some type of deflector, and I don't want to put anything else on my front end. Everyone I ride with(that has a w/shield) has the same thing. Doesn't bother me too much except I have to keep the chin trimmed, when it gets long it blows to my nostrils. Gives the moustache a nice handlebar turn tho.I'll be watching this thread for any possible clean solutions.Good luck!

I'm not sure if they have them for your bike, but a set of lower air deflectors should take care of it.

I run a Memphis slim on my ironhead with a peanut tank. Made my hair blow straight up so i added the lowers. They looked horrible but worked great. Even my constant passenger said it made a huge difference for her.
So i started cutting and modifying, now they are about 1/2 as wide and follow the curve of the sheild . Look better and work as well. I can ride without glasses and my half shell lid doesent try to pull my head off .

Larry...

They look fine. You did a terrific job. I think I want some. Can you get them in clear... not smoked?

Hey lv74-2004,

You're right! Not the prettiest things in the world, but you did a nice job cutting them down to follow the lines of the windshield.

I may try to find a set of clear ones to see if they work, and then just throw them on for the L O N G trips!

Thanks for the pics!
