Smile Bike Rack Project

I posted this some time ago in the in process stage. I have some more polishing to do and finish taping the holes. I plan on covering it with clear coat, since it is just polished aluminum. I have 12 hours and $5.73 in the project.

Currently I broke the &*^%$ tap in one of the holes. Looks like I am going to have to re-mill the bottom brace.

An engineer with access to a machine shop can be a very dangerous thing!

Did you use a cnc mill for this? It looks like it.

A mill, and dremel tool to finish the flames. I have been using the mill to drill the holes.

I broke another tap in it last night. I am going to have to remanufacture the bottom brace.

Almost Complete

I finally have it together. I just need to do a complete polish and then spray it with clear. I am really happy with the project.

I built a plate for the front and it justs clamps on with bolts going through the front plate into the frame of the bike rack. I clamp it to my sissy bar.

I have $6.50 in materials and the three taps I broke in the project.

The rack looks great. I noticed you use a book bag on the rear seat as i do. I purchased a cheap $20.00 Jansport bookbag and the straps will fit around the rear turnsignal brackets while the bag sits on the back seat up against the sissybar. try it. works great, easy on and off, no bungey cords needed. after its on, just pull the straps to tighten or loosen.
